Indian Festivals and Food

We all know how important food is during Indian Festivals. But what's amazing is that the main food always is something that is needed for the body in that particular season. Eg. Holy month of Ramadan is observed fasting during the day, which keeps up the energy levels in the scorching summer heat. Similarly, Ram navami isn't complete with the "kosambri and panaka" the cucumber salad and musk melon juice. Another example is the Sankranti/lohri, the winter festival where heat generating items are munched. And the list goes on. Living in harmony with nature and socializing has been the whole point of celebrating festivals, all of which contribute towards a holistic approach towards a "healthy" lifestyle.
