Veganism and thyroid
Does veganism help reduce symptoms and get rid of hypo/hyper thyroidism?
Hi Riya & Manav! First of all the way veganism helps is by adding more fruits & vegetables(fibres & antioxidants) in your diet, which helps in weight loss, fat loss & improves the function of the thyroid gland. But lean proteins are also important to produce thyroid hormones, most animal proteins also contain certain micronutrients like zinc, iron etc. which helps in thyroid functioning. So to answer the question, someone becoming vegan doesn't really add much additional value as such. It's the improvement in lifestyle & mindful food choices that's making the change, which someone can still make by staying vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
