Fasting during pregnancy
Is it okay to fast during pregnancy? If yes, what are a few things that I should remember?🤔
Hi Snigdha! No fasting is not recommended during pregnancy. A good example is - pregnant women not keeping fasts during Ramadan. Currently your baby gets nutrients from you, most importantly through the placenta. If you are fasting not only it can lead to extreme fatigue & weakness for you, but also it can cause your baby to not get enough food/nutrients, which in the long term can lead to low birth weight, premature delivery, nutrient deficiency etc. Also your body can become deficient in nutrients as well. It is even recommended to not stay hungry for more than 2-3 hours in pregnancy.
