Cysts In Your Ovary❓What Are They Actually 🤔

If you've done a USG for PCOS before, you're definitely familiar with the term cysts... 😰 Ever had questions on What these cysts are❓💡 Our pituitary gland produces FSH & LH hormones. FSH stimulates the ovary to produce follicles/sacs, in which eggs are held. LH triggers the ovary to release a mature egg. 🥚 In PCOS the eggs in the follicles/sacs never mature to trigger ovulation. Multiple of these sacs filled with fluid & immature eggs develop along the outer edge of the ovary, which we see as cysts. ⚪ Lack of ovulation causes male hormones to increase & alter levels of estrogen, progesterone, FSH & LH. Excess male hormones once again disrupt the regularity of the periods. ❌ If these cysts get calcified or grow abnormally or change in appearance, then surgery may be recommended. 👩‍⚕ But the good news is, women with PCOS may have smaller cysts which do not need to be removed. ✅
