Herbal tea is not technically a true tea - it does not contain the leaves or buds of the tea plant " Camellia sinensis ". Instead, it is a tisane (water based infusion) of leaves, fruits, bark, roots, or flowers of almost any edible, non-tea plant. They are caffeine free & have several medicinal benefits ... Chamomile, blue pea, Peppermint, ginger are few examples The various varieties of the actual tea [ white, green, yellow, pu erh , oolong and black tea] naturally contain caffeine & tannins ( anti nutrients shown to impair the digestion of various nutrients the body) the amount varying based on the type of tea . The difference among the varieties of tea lies purely in the degree to which the tea leaves are oxidised or fermented. Matcha tea is a product of green tea leaves too. 4-5 cups of herbal tea or max 2-3 cups of true tea/ day are permitted . Never take it with a meal , nor empty stomach. 1-2 hours after a meal or in the morning or evening with a snack works best !!
