Winters and thyroid

Is there any corelationship between weather change and thyroid? Like currently in winters I tend to feel too cold & I keep wondering if its just to do with the weather or also related to thyroid

The thyroid gland acts as a thermostat, helping maintain normal body temperature. Studies show that, exposure to cold, affects your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level, causing it to rise. This increase in TSH can be accompanied by common hypothyroidism symptoms, such as fatigue, depression, brain fog, and weight gain. You may also notice that you feel especially intolerant of the cold, and feel like your hands and feet, in particular, are susceptible to the cold temperatures.

Arshiya, In winters, recheck your TSH and other thyroid-test levels to determine if your thyroid hormone levels have dropped. Work with your doctor to readjust your dosage of thyroid hormone replacement medication to get to your optimal level, if necessary

Hi Riya & Arshiya! Hypothyroidism causes your metabolism to slow down which results in a drop in your body's core temperature. This is why you tend to feel more cold especially in winters. About 40% hypothyroid individuals are more sensitive to cold temperatures. That's why it's important for you to keep yourselves warm. Keep a regular workout regimen & eat thermogenic food to keep warm internally. Increasing the dosage of your current medication might help as well but for that discuss with your doctor.
