To all those who find it difficult to inculcate fruits in their diet, lets understand a few things about them with the guidance of our expert nutritionists!

@Sonali Sachdeva @Asmita Saha Would love to have your insights on these- 1) Should we eat one whole fruit at a time or mix multiple fruits in the form of fruit bowl? 2) Should we prefer local or imported fruits? 3) Eat a fruit or drink fruit juices?

Very apt topic....am asked these questions quite often 😊 1. It is always preferable to take one fruit at a time. This allows the body to assimilate the nutrients individually. Also, a mix of fruits can spike blood sugar levels more than a single fruit at a time 2. Local & seasonal fruits are always a YES. Imported fruits/ fruits from the cold storage/ fruits which look abnormally attractive should be totally avoided as they lose part of their nutrition 3. Eat a fruit to step up the fiber. However, if you prefer a juice then take it without straining For those of you who find it tough to consume fruits directly, try incorporating it in milkshakes/ smoothies/ raita to make it more palatable. Fruits are power houses of vitamins & minerals...it is important to make them a part of your daily diet

Hi @Ruchi Singh , thanks for tagging me in this.Would love to share my insights here! 1) Definitely one fruit at a time is preferable especially for diabetics, because multiple fruits together can cause sugar spike as @Sonali Sachdeva has rightfully mentioned. But if you're not concerned with the sugar spikes a fruit salad/fruit bowl with added chopped nuts (soaked) or seeds(soaked) or curd/yogurt can be great as a healthy breakfast or snack. Pairing up fruits with protein helps in keeping the sugar spike in check as well. 2) We digest & absorb nutrients better from locally available fruits. Imported fruits usually lose a lot of their nutrients while being imported, and sometimes harmful preservatives are used to increase their shelf life so definitely not a good choice. Even though once in a while trying exotic fruits are not bad, just go for the organic ones in that case.

3) Whole fruits definitely .You need to use multiple fruits to make a standard size of juice meaning too much sugar, no pulp means we lose a lot of the precious fibre as well. This not only increases the whole carb/sugar content of the juice but also reduces its nutrient value. This will also cause a pretty high sugar spike. But some of us like our fruits in liquid form, in that case blending the fruits & keeping the pulp in the juice will be a better idea. Adding some protein , even greens can be done to make a delicious smoothie. Even though blending fruits does destroy some fibre. Hope this helps!!🌟
