Collagen - the most abundant protein in the body, made of the 3 amino acids glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline; is the primary building block of our skin, muscles, nails, bones and connective tissues. It helps new cells grow, replaces dead skin cells, provides a protective covering for organs and helps blood to clot. Its fiber-like structure helps to make tissues strong, resilient and elastic [ the secret to reducing stretch marks n wrinkles] ! In food, collagen is naturally found only in animal flesh like meat and fish. However, a variety of animal and plant foods like eggs, avacadoes, cashews, carrots, sunflower seeds 🥕🥬🍳contain materials for collagen production in our own bodies. Here is something many of us may not know - collagen can be produced only with the help of vitamin C and since our body cannot make vitamin C, we need to get it from our diet. As we include collagen building foods in the diet, remember to add lemons, oranges, strawberries , tomatoes, guavas 🍓🍋too
