What it means to engage the core and it's importance ?

Your core plays a major role in stabilizing parts of the body and also contributes massively to all the movements. Our deep core muscles are important when it comes to back care. The vertebrae in our back provides protection for our spinal cord. Together the deep core muscles contract to keep our spine safe. For most of us the core muscles won't be fully functioning due to sedentary lifestyle and this puts other superficial muscles to work continuously but these muscles don't have the property to work for lengthy periods and fatigue easily. Our body reacts to this in a negative way resulting in various back related pain and discomfort. Therefore we must ACTIVATE the DEEP CORE during yoga asana or any other exercises.You can practice engaging your core at any time by feeling your ribs expand to the sides while you inhale, then as you exhale contract and zip up your abs, thinking about pulling your navel up and in toward your spine. Keep breathing normally while you continue to hold.
